As Folman's memory gradually comes back, the horrors of the 1982 Lebanon War emerge frame by frame. This film won the César Award for Best Foreign Film, the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Animated Feature, and was the runner-up for Best Documentary. It was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, the BAFTA for Best Film Not in the English Language, and Best Animated Feature, and competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.
