《Hong Kong, China Ethics Masterpiece
Directed by: Stone Sky
Synopsis:
A highly skilled martial arts film. The director Shi Tian is an ambitious person who directed his first film 'The Monk' at the age of 23, which is also this film 'Desire Monk'. Unlike previous martial arts films, Shi Tian combines martial arts with erotic elements to attract the audience's attention. Shi Tian plays the role of the gatekeeper of a brothel. The story begins with a spring festival painting. Da Zhi (played by Ren Shi Guan) takes the blame for his senior brother and is expelled from the temple. The monk meets a street hoodlum (played by Huang Shu Tang) who sells him out to villains portrayed by Feng Ke An and Gao Xiong. The hoodlum is killed, and upon learning the truth, the monk punishes the villains and opens a martial arts school to teach others. In the end, the monk pays tribute to his master, and the newly appointed abbot Ming Zhi mistakenly believes he is vying for his position, resulting in a violent conflict. Ultimately, Ming Zhi realizes the Buddhist principle of boundless sea of suffering and the path of repentance, ending his life by self-immolation. After that, Shi Tian's career was smooth sailing. In 1980, he reached a peak in his career, marrying Liu Qin Yu, a Taiwanese actress I really admire, and co-founding the successful film company that would later become the famous Hsin Yi City.
