  • intro:Goro Saizen (played by Tomokazu Miura) and Shuji Satomi (played by Yosuke Eguchi) are doctors who interned at the same time, but they took completely different paths. Saizen, with his exceptional personal skills, became the de facto first professor of the surgery department. Saizen's aggression posed a threat to the retiring first surgery professor, Professor Higashimura (played by Koji Ishizaka), who decided to promote someone else. Therefore, the ambitious Saizen sought help from his father-in-law—Director of Saizen's Obstetrics Clinic, Yuichi Saizen (played by Toshiyuki Nishida), and the first internal medicine professor, Professor Itagaki (played by Masahiro Motoki). Through bribery and forming alliances, and after a series of setbacks, he eventually secured the position of first surgery professor. In contrast, his peer, the first internal medicine assistant Shuji Satomi, was a practical and research-enthusiastic scholar. The differing choices of the two led to ultimately different fates. The powerful and influential Saizen finally reached the heights of his dreams, only to find the bitter cold winds, leading to a tragic turn of events. This drama is adapted from the masterpiece of Yasunari Kawabata, which is known as a 'national-level novel of Japan.' It has been remade five times and has been brought to the screen multiple times. The content directly addresses the dark side of hospitals, and even after many years, it still holds realistic significance.
